Alex Gailey (b. 1999, San Francisco, CA) is a New York based painter, sculptor, and short story fiction author. Gailey’s studio practice takes influence from the longstanding iconographies found in cartoon, graffiti, and tattoo practices which are carried throughout a cast of comedic, perverse, and brutal characters. He wants you to kiss his brutish naked Curb Lords, covered in brick dust and soupy concrete, and run with his playground gladiators as they are chased by runaway dogs. In the form of world-building, Gailey’s work simultaneously confronts and entertains the viewer with the legends and lore of his characters, derived from his own experience and imagination.
